Tour description:

Directions: The long, alpine day hike starts in the Hemmersuppenalm hiking area (1200m). Paid shuttle buses from the Alpengasthof Hindenburghütte run every hour (high season: every half hour) from the car park at the Tourist Info and the Blindau hiking car park up to the Hindenburghütte.

From the serviced Hindenburghütte, the tour initially leads for 1.5 kilometers on a paved mountain pasture road to St. Anna's Chapel (1242 m) above the Upper Hemmersuppenalm. The area is beautifully situated and offers a wonderful view of the Hörndlwand and the Hochgern mountains. After St. Anna's chapel, a forest path takes you through the pasture area in an easterly direction to the Pflegereck - Diensthütte hut. Behind the last pasture, a meadow path continues to the tree line. The section on the forest path over to the Pflegereck - Diensthütte hut is picturesque and represents the historical connection between the Hemmersuppenalm and the Winklmoos - Alm.

After 45 minutes on the forest path, the forest road crosses the path at the Pflegereck - Diensthütte hut (1306m), a forest hut of the Bavarian State Forests. On the other side of the forest road, the path runs through the mountain forest up to the Durchkaseralmen (1475m). The path gets steeper in some places, but it's always flat. A special highlight of this section are the larches along the way at about 1,300 meters above sea level. The sometimes mighty trees do not stand alone, but in groups of individual tree families. A botanically extraordinary phenomenon, stop and enjoy!

Above the tree line, the view of the mighty summit wall of the Steinplatte mountain opens up. The highlight of this tour begins at the Durchkaseralmen, the path across the high plateau to the Straubinger Haus hut (1550m). A beautiful view opens up in all directions. To the north Lake Chiemsee, the Hochplatte peak and to the east the Dürrnbachhorn summit. To the south you can marvel at the glaciers of Austria's highest mountains, as well as the majestic Kaiser Mountains to the west. The fantastic path leads 5 km over the plateau before you reach the Eggenalm pasture area.

The narrow path faces south in several places, but it is beautiful to walk on. If you want, you can climb to the summit of the Fellhorn (1765m) in about 30 minutes from the Eggenalm. The premium hiking trail Alpin Gletscherblick leads directly to the managed Straubinger Haus hut with a view of the Kaiser Mountains. Here you can rest and enjoy the view before descending past the chapel in the direction of the Hemmersuppenalm. The narrow path is interspersed with rocks at the beginning. At the managed Sulzner Kaser hut (1240m), the path leads back to the starting point of this fantastic hike via the asphalted road.

Refreshment stops: Straubinger Haus, Sulzner Kaser, Alpengasthof Hindenburghütte
