Weitsee, Mittersee and Lödensee form the three lakes area that extends between Reit im Winkl and Ruhpolding.
The change of the seasons is particularly impressive here. Enjoy the best view of the three lakes from the summit of the Dürrnbachhorn mountain.
Its status as a nature reserve is intended to preserve the beauty of lake Weitsee. Swimming is allowed in the fresh, clear water from some bathing spots, perfect refreshment after a hike to Röthelmoos or a bike tour from Reit im Winkl across the Dürrfeldkreuz.
In winter we prepare cross-country trails across the Three Lakes Area, in autumn clouds of mist create mystical photo motifs.
If you cycle or hike from Reit im Winkl to Weitsee, pack some ingredients for a picnic. Although the water is of drinking water quality, there is neither a shop nor a café. In winter, when cross-country skiing, the small hut on the Mittersee lake and the Sachsenbacheralm offer food and drink, about halfway between Seegatterl and lake Weitsee.
-by bike on the cycle path along the Lofer, also suitable for families, with a short ascent to the Dürrfeldkreuz
-with the regular buses of the RVO, with several stops in the three lakes area
-by car on the B 305
-in combination with a hike to the Röthelmoos area or over to Jochberg/ Pötschalm
Three lakes area on foot, by bike, with cross-country skis, etc.
-Lake Weitsee is a nature reserve - driving boats, surfboards etc. is prohibited. Bathing is possible at the signposted dedicated bathing areas. Keep your dog on a leash at all times.
-Depending on the temperature and weather conditions, bathing is possible from May / June.
-In winter, the lakes in the Three Lakes Area often freeze over. However, the thickness of the ice is not officially measured and stepping on the ice surface is at your own risk. Even if you watch others ice-skating or cross-country skiing on the ice - be careful!
