Short and sweet - the via ferrata at the Hausbach waterfall in Reit im Winkl (difficulty C/ D) makes the eyes light up for everyone who likes to use the via ferrata. The approach from the town center is short and the proximity to the waterfall provides an extra dose of thrill.
A hiking trail has existed in the gorge of the waterfall by the Hausbach river in Reit im Winkl for 100 years. The quite demanding via ferrata has been added more recently.
Incidentally, this was the first via ferrata in the Chiemgau region. The topo is available for download below.
Length: 400 meters
Difference in altitude: 100 meters
Duration: a total of approx. 1 h 45 min: 15 minutes approach - 1 hour on the via ferrata - 30 minutes descent back to town
Difficulty level: C / difficult, D / very difficult for smaller people - more difficult for everyone after heavy rainfall due to the proximity to the waterfall
Parking: Parking spaces, for example at the Festsall, at the indoor pool or at the outdoor pool, access via Barefoot Park/ Am Grünbühel approx. 15 minutes
Access only with suitable via ferrata equipment (harness, via ferrata set, helmet, gloves), rental from Sport Dorner at Tiroler Straße 9-11
Spring/ summer/ autumn
The via ferrata is accessible depending on the weather and experience. The via ferrata is near a waterfall, so wet spots are to be expected. Only recommended for those who are experienced in wet weather.
Winter
If there is snow, the via ferrata is closed as the descent is highly prone to avalanches.
