Culinary highlights in Reit im Winkl

Organic dairy sheep farm Gstatter

Perhaps it's the special location of Reit im Winkl, or perhaps it's the Gstatter family's loving care for their animals: the products from the Naturland dairy sheep farm are a real treat!

From pickled soft cheese, yoghurt and quark to delicious ham and pepper bites, the family also offers soaps and lambskins in their range! And you can even fertilise with a natural product that comes from sheep: have you ever heard of sheep's wool fertiliser pellets?

Gut Steinbach

Pure enjoyment with short distances. Is that possible? Well, if you take a look at the menu at Gut Steinbach, then THAT IS POSSIBLE!

The tasty venison leg on the plate comes from our own deer herd, the fresh bread comes daily from local baker Pretzner and the fruit from the fruit trees on the Gut Steinbach grounds finds its way into jams, sauces and cakes made in-house.

So it's no wonder that head chef Achim Hack can draw on the full range of ingredients and has now managed to earn the Green Star from the Michelin Guide for the third time in a row. In keeping with the credo of sourcing 80% of all products within a radius of 80 kilometres, Gut Steinbach places great emphasis on regionality and seasonality and has done so successfully for many years.

Zenzkaser

The Winklmoos-Alm at almost 1200 metres is not only known as a ski resort. Visitors to the region enjoy the alpine pasture area above all because of the special local offerings: the lush green meadows, the colourful flower blossoms and the pure air can be tasted as soon as you try a slice of the homemade cheesecake made from the farm's own fresh cheese.

The Stephan family has been farming the Zenzkaser since 1995 and produces various raw milk cheeses, alpine cheese and cream cheese on site. Between May and September, their products provide moments of pleasure. The tinkling of cow bells, a lovingly decorated and modern alpine hut and the aroma of fresh cheesecake provide a little break from everyday life.

Bauernhofcafé Widhölzl

The cakes here are all still handmade, usually without a recipe. Whether cream cake, apple strudel or plum dessert - the quality of the cakes and tarts speaks volumes. The sweet treats are not only a delight for the house guests: locals and day trippers from the surrounding area like to visit the farm, which is located in the Birnbach district with a view of the Kaiser mountains!

Beekeepers' Association Reit im Winkl

The tried and tested honey milk for the children, the fresh sandwich with tasty winter honey or simply a teaspoon of candied summer honey for a sweet snack in between: what the industrious little bees create with their sweet gold is nothing short of a miracle!

Reit im Winkl's beekeeping association currently has around 50 active bee colonies, which are responsible for filling the shelves of the Honig-Ladl shop in Reit im Winkl.

Stoaner Alm

You can definitely "eat well" at the Stoaner Alm with a view of the village and the Wilder Kaiser mountains. But the food is not just supposed to taste good with the much-travelled head of the house, Willi Schwarz!

It is important to him that he can serve his guests regional and seasonal dishes. That's why he doesn't use sea bream on his plates, but trout from the pond at the Reit im Winkl based Heistracher fish farm. Short transport routes for his ingredients and a menu that is adapted to the seasons are important to him. And the best thing? Willi also has one or two exciting dishes for vegetarians.

Culinary delights with the highest enjoyment factor are guaranteed!

Hindenburg Hütte

After an intensive hiking or cycling excursion in the Hemmersuppenalm nature reserve, guests are happy when they recognise the outline of the Hindenburghütte from afar. Then it's time to relax, enjoy the view and savour Bavarian delights in the cosy parlour or on the sunny terrace of the Hindenburghütte.

Landlord Günter Dirnhofer is now the third generation to run the Hindenburghütte and knows what his guests want. Fresh, seasonal dishes made from local produce.

As a beer sommelier, he is also very familiar with all kinds of aromas and flavours and is happy to give his guests a little insight into the variety of beer enjoyment in a "beer tasting".

Forellenstube

Not all fish is the same, Jutta Plangger from the Forellenstube is certain. Together with her husband, she runs the "Forellenstube" restaurant and prepares freshly caught fish from her own farm in a wide variety of forms.

Whether it's trout fillets, whole, fried trout, trout on a stick or smoked trout - to ensure the best quality on the plate, they monitor the health and survival of their fish themselves. Spread over two large ponds, they breed their own rainbow trout and look after the continuation of this ancient craft.

Heistracher fish shop

In October 2024, Reinhard and Karin Heistracher will be celebrating their 40th anniversary of selling fish.

The Heistracher family has been dedicated to breeding and selling their trout since 1 October 1985. Whether fresh or hot-smoked, their fish stands for top quality and flavour. The lively salmonids, which are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, are spread over around 1000 m2.

Pretzner's

Pasta in all shapes and colours, jams that taste sweet and savoury in equal measure, salty chocolates, pralines, bread that wakes up the village in the early hours of the morning with a fragrant, spicy note: welcome to Pretzner's or, as guests often say: off to the Pretzner bakery.

With such a varied and sophisticated product range, Pretzner's not only attracts customers from the immediate neighbourhood. One or two guests quickly load up the boot of their family car with bread, jams and souvenirs from the bakery before setting off on their journey home. Because everyone wants to savour this pleasure for as long as possible!
