Winklmoos-Alm alpine pasture

Perhaps the most famous alpine pasture in Germany is the Winklmoos-Alm, which lies at around 1150 m and belongs to Reit im Winkl. Horses and cows graze in the extensive pasture area in summer, it is a wonderful area for hiking, biking, walking and stopping off in numerous huts and mountain inns.

A visit is also worthwhile at night: the internationally recognized Dark Sky Park Winklmoos-Alm is the first Dark Sky Park in the Alps and the 4th in Germany. Star tours with an astronomer and physicist take place regularly.

Other highlights:

  • Nostalgic chairlift to the Dürrnbachhorn
  • Pushchair hiking trail
  • Church of St. Johann im Gebirg
  • Three Countries Point at Scheibelberg (Bavaria, Tyrol, Salzburg)
  • Hike to the Muckklause
  • Hiking trails to the Staubfall waterfall, the Dürrnbachhorn peak, the Steinplatte summit and much more

In summer you can reach the Winklmoos-Alm by car via the toll road, by bus, by hiking bus from Reit im Winkl, on foot or by bike. The gondola does not run in summer!
