All you need to know for your holidays...
First the most important orientation: west is where you can see the mighty peaks of the Wilder and Zahmer Kaiser mountain range. To the right of these rugged peaks is the only open part of the valley of Reit im Winkl which is otherwise surrounded by mountains.
The following spots are particularly good if you want to watch and photograph the sunset. Below you will find a link to an overview of when the sun sets on which day. Many weather apps on cell phones also provide information about sunrise and sunset.
The high valley of Reit im Winkl, which is wide open to the west and only limited by the Kaiser Mountains in the distance, offers an incomparable and unique light show 30 minutes before and after sunset, especially from November to May. During this time, it is physically possible for the sun to illuminate the clouds from below.
Depending on the weather, the sinking of the sun can be associated with an impressive play of colors, which sometimes shines in red, yellow, violet or even green hues. This warm and "long" light has always "touched" us humans in a very special way.
By the sea or on mountain peaks you have a free view of the horizon, in most mountain valleys this free view is blocked by the mountains. It's different in Reit im Winkl, only the Zahmer Kaiser range in the distance provides an incomparable sunset backdrop, depending on the position of the sun.
Start your “Sundowner Hike” at the Tourist Information about 45 minutes before sunset along the winter hiking trail in the direction of Wimmerkreuz and then to Entfelden. From Entfelden you walk towards the sunset to the cross-country stadium.
