St. Pankratius Parish Church

In 1393, the small mountain town of Reit im Winkl got its first own church from the bishop of Chiemsee. Master builder Hans Hainz rebuilt the church in 1689 before lightning destroyed it once again in 1718. After the rebuilt Anton of Berchtesgaden dedicated the new church.

In the beginning the parish of Reit im Winkl was subordinated to the parish Kirchdorf in Tirol. Since 1805 it has been independent. At the beginning of the 20th century the old church was too small and dilapidated. Priest Genghammer rebuilt the church 1911 with the plans of the architect Josef Elsner from Munich. The current church is built in neo-baroque and art nouveau style.
