At the Wimmerkreuz in Reit im Winkl, there are mighty linden trees, with benches and a picnic table, and next to them a boulder polished by glaciers: the Glacier Mill Field. It was formed during the Würm Ice Age approximately 10,000–12,000 years ago.
The area of present-day Reit im Winkl was once covered by a thick layer of glacial ice, the Achen Glacier. The movement of the glaciers smoothed and rounded the underlying rocks. The Wimmerkreuz is just a few minutes' walk from the Tourist Information Center, by bike, or cross-country skis in winter.
