The Reit im Winkl Theater Group

Everybody loves our folk theater group. Though not professional actors, the local members present comedies for young and old in a funny and very experienced manner.

Born to be on stage
It is said that people from Bavaria are born with a natural talent for self expression. Their dialect, wit, street-smartness and irony, combined with a certain shrewdness and the ability to not take themselves too seriously, makes them perfect for the stage. Find out for yourself at one of our many plays – but be prepared to laugh your off!

History of the theater

Our folk theater has a long and eventful history. According to old documents, it was founded in 1919 and has been presenting various plays a year up until the beginning of WW II in 1939.

The end of the war and the following occupation proved to be a very difficult time for the theater, as backdrops and props were either destroyed or taken away. In a great effort of teamwork and companionship, the members of the group and the locals managed to rebuild everything. The theater was then called “Singspielbühne” and presented a combination of concerts and plays, staring, among others, the famous local singer Maria Hellwig.

With the increase in tourism in the 50s, both locals and guests started to flock to the theater and plays were performed during winter and summer season. By the 60s, performances were a regular cultural event in Reit im Winkl and have been ever since. We are happy and proud to have so many fans and visitors who come back regularly.
